Night work planned for SE Mill Plain/Chkalov this weekend
Press Release Date:
Thursday, May 4, 2017
Weather permitting, City of Vancouver Public Works crews will be paving in the intersection of Southeast Mill Plain Boulevard and Chkalov Drive from about 9 p.m. Saturday, May 6, to 9 a.m. Sunday, May 7. Drivers should be prepared for lane closures and detours.
The past winter’s weather was particularly hard on pavement in the heavily traveled Mill Plain and Chkalov intersection, resulting in ongoing filling of potholes since that time. This weekend’s work, which will take place at night to reduce traffic impacts, aims to bring some interim relief. Crews will be grinding off the top 1 to 1 1/2 inches of street surface in the worst areas, then paving over with a hot asphalt mix.
While the work is taking place, eastbound traffic will be limited to one lane in each direction and turning movements will be restricted. North, south and westbound lanes will be closed, and traffic should be prepared to take alternate routes. Message boards and signs will be in place to alert drivers.
The full intersection will be repaved as part of the city’s Southeast Mill Plain Project, from 104th Avenue to NE Chkalov Drive, which aims to address safety and congestion. Construction of that project is scheduled for 2018. See www.cityofvancouver.us/MillPlain-104 for details.
