Critical Incident Videos

The Vancouver Police Department started its department camera program in March 2023. The program was instituted to increase transparency, trust, and accountability.

Body worn cameras (BWC) are issued to all sworn staff and all patrol vehicles and some detective vehicles are equipped with front-facing and rear passenger vehicle cameras.

Department camera public record request

Members of the public wishing to request police records, including department camera footage, should complete the online request form on the Police Records Division page.

Critical incident video

Following an officer involved shooting involving the Vancouver Police Department (VPD), VPD will release a Critical Incident Video, which includes video from department body worn cameras (BWC) and police vehicle cameras. The release of these videos is at the discretion of the Chief of Police or designee and is separate from the Independent Investigation Team.

The Washington Administrative Codes (WACs) implemented the requirement of an Independent Investigation Team that is completely independent of the involved agency in incidents where the use of deadly force by a peace officer results in death, substantial bodily harm, or great bodily harm. All Vancouver Police Department Officer Involved Shootings are investigated by an Independent Investigation Team. Vancouver Police Department personnel are not involved in the investigation.
