Deputy City Manager Lon Pluckhahn begins term as president of ICMA executive board

November 20, 2023

Deputy City Manager Lon Pluckhahn is now president of the International City/County Management Association’s (ICMA) Executive Board. Pluckhahn, who will serve a one-year term leading the ICMA’s governance body, was installed as president during the organization’s annual conference in October.

“ICMA has been instrumental throughout my professional career, and it is an honor to give back and to serve ICMA as its president for the 2023-2024 term,” said Pluckhahn. “Our members have a wide range of experiences that lead them to public administration. That is why the primary focus of my term in office will be on strengthening the ICMA governance structure so that we are able to represent the diversity of our members from around the globe.”

As President, Pluckhahn will lead the 21-member executive board in its responsibilities to provide fiduciary oversight, to adopt policies that advance ICMA’s mission and vision and to represent the interests of the ICMA membership in adopting ICMA strategic objectives. The board also enforces the organization’s Code of Ethics, which governs the professional and personal conduct of the membership.

“Lon has shown dedicated and courageous leadership throughout his career, and we are excited that he will bring those experiences to our board as we move into the future as an organization and as a profession,” said ICMA CEO/Executive Director Marc Ott.

Pluckhahn has served as deputy city manager of Vancouver since August 2021. Prior to joining Vancouver, he served as city manager of Marion, Iowa for more than 14 years.
