Police Community Advisory Committee
The Police Community Advisory Committee builds on the City’s recent efforts to improve police services. Since 2019, the Vancouver Police Department has implemented 84 recommendations identified by the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) to help improve VPD culture, policies and practices around use of force. These improvements include implementing a body camera and vehicle camera program in 2023.
Purpose
Committee members advise the City Manager on issues relating to police services in the City of Vancouver. Members assist with identifying community safety needs, gaps in services and ways to improve policing and public safety.
Members will also help guide funding recommendations and identify outcomes and impacts that are meaningful to the community.
Advisory Committee Recommendations
The Police Community Advisory Committee met six times over three months in intensive meetings to help identify community safety needs, gaps in services, and ways to improve policing and public safety in Vancouver. In July, the committee’s recommendations were presented to City Council.
