January 16, 2024
On January 15 at approximately 10:30 p.m., Vancouver Police responded to the area of W Mill Plain Blvd and Kauffman Ave for a report of a Vancouver Fire Department Squad 1 Dodge 5500 truck being stolen from the scene of a medical call while paramedics were inside with a patient. An extensive search for the vehicle was conducted by the Vancouver Police Department and Clark County Sheriff’s Office, however the vehicle was not located.
The Washington State Patrol advised the truck was seen on one of their freeway cameras crossing into Oregon approximately 5 minutes after the theft would have occurred.
This morning at approximately 5:00 a.m., the vehicle was located unoccupied in the Albany, Oregon area by the Linn Co Sheriff’s Office. Near the area where the vehicle was abandoned, Sheriff’s deputies contacted a male inside an empty house. The male was interviewed and subsequently arrested for Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle, related to the theft of the fire truck, as well as on an outstanding Washington County warrant. Details related to the arrest should be directed to the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.
The Vancouver Police Department Property Crimes Unit is continuing the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Vancouver Police Department.
Nothing further is releasable at this time.
