Become a catalyst for climate change. Our Youth Climate Leadership Program supports high school students committed to protecting our planet and strengthening our communities.
In this program, students collaborate with peers across the city, develop sustainable solutions, and gain valuable skills to advocate for a better future. It’s not just about learning—it’s also about doing. Dive into exciting projects, attend educational field trips, and develop skills to tackle real-world climate change.
Program overview
Fall 2024: 10 weeks of in-person gatherings to build your climate resume.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Do I need to know anything about climate change issues? No! You do not need prior knowledge of climate science or climate solutions. We will explore these issues together by sharing our personal stories, researching topics that interest you, and working on projects that address local climate challenges.
- Who can participate? This program is intended for high school students between the ages of 14-18. Students from alternative schools and non-traditional high school programs are encouraged to apply. Students outside of this age range may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Do I need to live in Vancouver? Yes, applicants must live or attend school within the Vancouver City limits or urban growth area.
- Where are the meeting locations? Sessions will take place at Vancouver City Hall (downtown), the Water Resources Education Center (on SE Columbia Way), or other locations in Vancouver.
- How will I get to the locations? We encourage you to ride the bus, carpool, or find other ways to get there besides driving alone. Transportation assistance is also available upon request.
- When will I be notified if I am accepted? Participants in the Fall 2024 cohort will be notified by Friday, Sept. 6, 2024, and must accept their spot in the program by Sept. 13, 2024.
- What are the benefits? Participants will build skills and knowledge that will help them adapt to climate change and step into new leadership roles and career pathways that will benefit Vancouver as a whole. Additionally, upon completion of the program, participants will each receive a $500 stipend.
