Program overview

Fall 2024: Join a group of 12 high school students for 10 weeks of in-person gatherings to build your climate resume.

Work with other youth to create a local climate project.
Explore topics of climate justice and climate resilience.
Build skills and community to act on climate solutions.
Discover diverse roles and careers in the climate movement.
Connect with City leaders.
Program is Sept. 24 through Dec. 3, 2024. No programming Thanksgiving week.
After school sessions are Tuesdays from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Three half day (3-4 hours) weekend field trips on Saturdays: Sept. 28, Oct. 19, and Nov. 16.

We aim to cultivate a cohort that has a diversity of racial and ethnic backgrounds, gender expression, and household wealth, with a range of climate interests and experiences.

Applicants will be individually evaluated based on (1) completeness and effort put into application responses, (2) ability to commit to attending workshops and field trips, and (3) demonstrated interest and curiosity for climate action or community impact.

All applicants will be notified of cohort selections by Aug. 30, 2024.
Participants must accept their spot in the program by Sept. 10, 2024.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can participate? This program is intended for high school students between the ages of 14-18. Students from alternative schools and non-traditional high school programs are encouraged to apply. Students outside of this age range may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Do I need to live in Vancouver? Yes, applicants must live or attend school within the Vancouver City limits or urban growth area.
Where are the meeting locations? Sessions will take place at Vancouver City Hall (downtown), the Water Resources Education Center (on SE Columbia Way), or other locations in Vancouver.
How will I get to the locations? We encourage you to ride the bus, carpool, or find other ways to get there besides driving alone. Transportation assistance is also available upon request.
When will I be notified if I am accepted? Participants will be notified by Friday, Aug. 30, 2024, and must accept their spot in the program by Sept. 10, 2024.
What are the benefits? Participants will build skills and knowledge that will help them adapt to climate change and step into new leadership roles and career pathways that will benefit Vancouver as a whole. Additionally, upon completion of the program, participants will each receive a $500 stipend.
