The City of Vancouver is seeking applicants to fill two vacancies on the Portland International Airport (PDX) Citizen Noise Advisory Committee. Applications must be received by 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1.

The PDX Citizen Noise Advisory Committee is the official forum to address the community’s aircraft noise concerns. Local jurisdictions and the Port of Portland appoint members of the committee to represent residential and business concerns. The City of Vancouver has two members on the committee.

This recruitment is for one full-term appointment with a term beginning Nov. 30 and ending on Nov. 30, 2027, and one mid-term appointment beginning Nov. 30 and ending on Nov. 30, 2025. Each position is currently held by an individual whose term is expiring but they may reapply to retain their position. Per Vancouver City Council policy, all incumbents who wish to reapply for their positions will be re-interviewed along with any qualifying applicants. Applicants must be available for an online interview with Vancouver City Councilmembers.

The PDX Citizen Noise Advisory Committee reports, in an advisory capacity, to the General Manager for Airport Operations at PDX, through the Manager of Noise Management Office. The committee acts on behalf of local cities and counties to:

  • address community noise concerns
  • monitor and provide input on the implementation of the current PDX Noise Compatibility Plan
  • review airport noise issues and provide advice on issue resolution and follow-up action
  • enhance citizen understanding of airport noise management through the work of the committee as a whole
  • periodically brief the Port of Portland Board of Commissioners and the Vancouver City Council on the work of the committee

The committee typically meets from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on the second Thursday of the middle month of each quarter. Upcoming meetings for 2025 are scheduled for Feb. 13, May 8, Aug. 14 and Nov. 13 at the Portland airport (PDX). Dinner is provided.
