Disabled Parking
Parking With a Placard or Special License Plate
Vehicles with a valid and properly displayed disabled parking placard or special plate may be parked on the street, for free, in any parking space that is time restricted (including metered parking).
Some spaces in the downtown area are time-limited for placard holders to a maximum of four hours. These spaces are marked with a sign.
- All on-street parking is subject to the Prolonged Parking Ordinance VMC 19.12.100
- No one may park in any marked access aisle; this space is reserved for people to access their vehicle. RCW 46.19.050
- Van-accessible spaces are designed for use by wheelchair vans. Please use them only if you drive a wheelchair van or no other disabled parking spaces are available.
- Some private and public parking lots charge for parking even in specially-designated disabled parking spaces.
The disabled parking placard or special plate does not authorize free parking in public or private off-street parking lots. Nor is parking authorized in:
- Zones or areas where stopping, parking, or standing of all vehicles is prohibited
- Parking spaces reserved for special types of vehicles, such as permit parking, city use zones, police zones, fire lanes, and loading zones
