Summer Camp Jobs
(Ages 16+) Work with children ages 6-14 and adults with disabilities during summer recreation day camps. Camp Counselors should enjoy leading diverse groups of campers in activities like sports, crafts and recreational games. They should be able to work well in teams with all ages and abilities. Duties include providing a safe environment, leading planned activities and communicating with participants, parents and staff. Job may be located at Firstenburg or Marshall community centers or at local parks and schools.
Summer Special Events
(Ages 16+) Assist with City of Vancouver special events, including concerts and movies, with set-up/tear-down, logistics support, crowd management and customer service. Most shifts are outdoors in a variety of summer weather conditions, hours will vary by event type. Job will be located at a variety of parks throughout Vancouver.
Aquatics
(Ages 16+) Help people enjoy water recreation activities safely and responsibly at City of Vancouver pools. Aquatics positions include lifeguards who supervise pool use and Water Safety Instructors who teach swim lessons. No experience is needed but specific training and certification is required before you begin working. There is no cost to participate in the training/certification process and candidates receive a $300 incentive after successfully completing lifeguard training. Jobs may be located at Firstenburg Community Center or Marshall Community Center.
Access to Recreation Staff
(Ages 16+) Support engaging recreation activities for people with disabilities in the Access to Recreation (ATR) program. ATR staff are skilled in working with all ages and abilities and have a thorough understanding of neurodiverse needs and services. Duties include providing a safe environment, leading planned activities and communicating with participants, parents and staff. Job will be located at Marshall Community Center.
Climbing Wall Belayer/Instructor
(Ages 16+) Manage and belay at open climbs on the Sadri’s Summit Climbing Wall. Instructors will also teach climbing classes for ages 4-13. Duties include providing a safe environment, leading planned activities and communicating with participants, parents and staff. Job will be located at Firstenburg Community Center.
Facilities Helper
(Ages 16+) Assist with the facilities team in preparing event spaces at Firstenburg and Marshall community centers for private rentals on the weekends. This role requires excellent customer service and communication skills, as well as the ability to life tables, chairs and other rental equipment. Most shifts are in the evenings and on weekends. Job will be located at Firstenburg or Marshall community center.
Fitness Instructor
(Ages 18+) Plan and lead group exercise and activity sessions either in the studio or from the pool deck. Fitness Instructors set-up class equipment, ensure safety of participants and encourage a positive fitness environment. Positions include Group Fitness Instructors, Water Fitness Instructors and Personal Trainers. Some previous fitness experience is preferred, certifications are required for some positions. Jobs may be located at Firstenburg Community Center or Marshall Community Center.
Sports Supervisors, Officials/Referees and Scorekeepers
(Ages 16+) Support recreation opportunities in youth or adult soccer, volleyball, or basketball leagues. Supervisors must be ages 18+ and are responsible for running the day-to-day operations of the league. Scorekeepers must be ages 16+ and are responsible for tracking rosters, statistics and operating the score clocks. Referees are responsible for set up/take down, game management and must be knowledgeable about sport and league rules. Youth sports referees must be ages 16+ and adult sports referees must be ages 18+.
Weight Room Attendant
(Ages 18+) Provide support and instruction to all ages and abilities in a community center fitness environment. Duties include oversight of the weight room, instructing customers on safety, cleaning, general equipment orientation and carrying out fitness center policies. Job may be located at Firstenburg Community Center or Marshall Community Center.
