Vancouver Police arrest assault suspect

October 4, 2023

On September 30, Vancouver Police responded to 102nd/Mill Plain Blvd for the report of an assault. A female waiting for bus was approached by a male wearing a skeleton face mask who pointed a gun at her. A struggle ensued and the victim was able to get the gun away from the suspect who fled in a Black Nissan Cube. The gun was determined to be a realistic looking airsoft (see photo of recovered gun).

Detectives from the Vancouver Police Department Major Crimes Unit began investigating and located surveillance video which showed the suspect vehicle, which had several specific characteristics as well as a partial license plate.

While investigating the assault, detectives followed up on another call for service on October 3 in which a motel employee had reported a male had unlawfully entered an unoccupied room and was alleged to have been performing lewd acts. That male was seen driving a Black Nissan Cube. The motel captured a photo of the suspect, his vehicle, and the full license plate. The vehicle matched the video from the September 30 assault.

Detectives were able to confirm the identity of the suspect as Alexander Jose Conchas, 19 years of age. On October 3, Detectives with the Vancouver Police Crime Reduction Unit observed Conchas leaving his residence in a 2011 Black Nissan Cube and arrested him without incident. Conchas was booked into the Clark County Jail for Assault I and Residential Burglary.

A search warrant of the Nissan Cube was executed, and detectives located a skeleton facemask, duct tape, a large zip tie and a realistic looking airsoft gun.

Additional charges are pending as Conchas is also the suspect in a September 26 assault investigation in which a female reported a male in a similar mask grabbed her while she was walking in the area of SE Mill Plain Blvd./SE Olympia Dr. pointed a firearm, and zip tied her before releasing her.

The investigation is continuing and nothing further is releasable at this time.
