Vancouver Police investigate fatality collision

This morning at approximately 6:00 a.m., Vancouver Police responded to E Mill Plain Blvd./V Street for the report of a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision. The vehicle was traveling westbound on E Mill Plain Blvd. in the right lane approaching V Street and the pedestrian was crossing E Mill Plain Blvd. from the south in a marked mid-block crosswalk. The investigation indicates that the pedestrian, who was wearing dark clothing at the time of the collision, did not activate the overhead crosswalk lights before crossing and the driver of the vehicle was unable to stop in time to avoid striking the pedestrian, who was pronounced deceased at the scene. Neither speed, impairment nor distraction on the part of the driver were causing factors in the collision.
The Vancouver Police Department Traffic Unit is continuing the investigation.
